Hoped for September regatta will not take place

The following statement has been released by Alan Laws, Chairman of the Sprint Racing Committee:

The Sprint Racing Committee and the Regatta Committee sincerely regret to announce that the possible National Sprint Racing event being planned for 26 and 27 Sep 2020 will not take place.

The volunteer members of the Regatta Committee have taken part in many hours of discussion and consultation, including a site visit to the NWSC, with the aim of running a COVID Secure regatta. Unfortunately, we have determined, after much deliberation, that we would not have either sufficient competitors or suitably experienced volunteer officials attending the event to run a viable competition this year. The clubs had been asked to give an idea of how many competitors would be available and their response made it clear that numbers would not be enough. Similarly, with the volunteer officials.

On a positive note, the work that the Regatta Committee has done in partnership with members of BC staff should ensure a Covid secure Sprint Racing Regatta season for 2021.

The members of the SRC commended the work of the Regatta Committee, being all too aware of the intensity of it, especially as it could only bring about a result that was not what was desired.
